The FAQ’s of the Spa

April 6th, 2008

With one out of five Americans having visited a spa, chances are those
who have not yet experienced the spa are at least aware of its benefits
and services. To take the guesswork out of an experience that has been
designed for relaxation, the International SPA Association (ISPA) has
compiled a list of Frequently Asked Questions:

How do I find the right spa for me?
A:
It’s important to do your homework beforehand. Spa newcomers will want
to learn the difference between day spas, destination spas, and club
spas before determining which one is the best fit. Prior to visiting a
spa, phone them to learn more about their services and treatments.
Professional spa staff will be happy to answer any questions. Family
and friend referrals are also a great way to learn about specific spas
and their services.

Know the Code: Getting the Most Out of Your Spa Experience

April 6th, 2008

You enjoy a good massage, but do you just grin and bear it if your
therapist’s touch is a bit too strong? Or what if the water is isn’t
quite right during your pedicure treatment? If you find the music a
smidge too loud in the treatment room, do you mention it to the
therapist?

“The spa is meant to de-stress, not stress you,” said
International SPA Association (ISPA) President Lynne Walker McNee. “Not
only should you say something, you actually have the right and
responsibility to do so. You have the right to control your spa
experience no matter what type of spa you wish to visit or treatment
you choose to enjoy.”

Airport Spas Provide Relief from Travel Stress

April 4th, 2008

When lines are long, flights are cancelled, and you’re facing a
four-hour delay, the skies may not seem so friendly when it comes to
air travel. Fortunately, airports are responding with the addition of
spas whose services are more than a welcome relief from the stresses of
air travel - and no reservations are required.

Geared towards
travelers who have only a little time, airport spa services are
condensed and focus on rejuvenating and relaxing customers before their
next flight. However, some airport spas do offer full salon services
such as cut and color, pedicures and manicures, or full-body massages
for those with more time on their hands.

Spa-rific - Making Sense of the Spa World

April 4th, 2008

Resort spas, med spas, hotel spas, spa communities - so much spa, so
little time. With so many spa choices, how do you tell the difference
between spas. Is there a difference? And how do you go about choosing
the one that’s right for you? According to SpaFinder, there is a
difference and those differences make for some exciting choices when it
comes to achieving a rested and balanced lifestyle.

It’s
becoming more common to find resort/hotel spa properties throughout the
world. These properties feature a wide variety of recreational
facilities, including the full-service spa. Guests may enjoy golf,
tennis, horseback riding, skiing, and various water sports, along with
a range of dining options located on the property. Spa treatments and
services are generally complement to a hotel stay or vavation
activities at a resort. For instance, the Acqualina & ESPA Spa in
Miami Beach, Florida, is comprised of the Mediterranean-style tower,
evoking the city’s classic 1950s-era grand hotels. At the heart of the
resort is the 20,000-square-foot ESPA, the U.S. flagship of the
British-based spa company, known for their customized treatment rituals
and thorough therapist training.

How to fight Acne?

March 17th, 2008

Acne Can Be a Minor Nuisance - Or a Personal Tragedy! There are
however numerous solutions to your problems, even apart from buying
products to fight the acne!

Most people who have reached adolescence have at least once suffered
from annoyances and irritation that acne is so known for. The few lucky
ones that seem rarely or never to be touched by the hand of acne, are
spread thin. For the majority, acne is something they had, or even
still have to deal with. For some the acne troubles persist throughout
their lives. And for others, acne is a terrible invader that will
remain in their lives forever. There are even unlucky ones who are hit
with acne at 50 year old!

For some, acne will render their skin ugly, is irritating, always on
their minds and interfering with their self-confidence and personal
relationships.

Scientific causes

The scienctific cause of acne on your skin can be brought back to
the hair follicles in your skin. These sometimes get blocked. Numerous
researchers have failed to pinpoint the exact cause of these blockages,
nor have they been able to explain why they are with some people more
severe than with others. There doesn’t seem to be a genetic, nor
environmental reason behind this problem.

It is also not known why acne commonly first occurs after puberty,
although the sebaceous glands grow considerably at this time, which
might be at least part of the cause. The oil produced by hair
follicles, called sebum, is normally beneficial because it helps the
skin from drying and limits skin infections. However, when the sebum
can’t drain, it builds up and actually becomes a culture medium for
bacteria.

As pimples develop, the skin may become inflamed. This inflammation
may last for sometime, and it even happens that these pimples burst. A
very important lesson is not to squeeze these pimples, because
squeezing can lead to more sever skin infections, as dirt can enter the
wound. In severe cases even scarring may take place, caused by
imperfactions in the inflammatory respone to infection. It is not known
why some people are more susceptible to acne scarring than others.
Fortunately, most acne spots and inflammation heal over time.

Prevention

Use a mild soap like Dove to clean your skin, and do this regularly.
Especially in the morning and evening, the skin needs to be cleaned.
This will help you one step further to solve your acne skin problem.

Secondly, do must prevent from scrubbing your skin area. Scrubbing
only aggravates the condition. It is important to thoroughly rinse the
skin after you use any cleanser. You must not use astringents unless
you have an oily skin. In addition, you need to shampoo your hair
everyday, especially if your skin is very oily.

Guys that suffer from acne should make sure that they check electric
and safety razors thoroughly and select the most comfortable one. If
you are using safety razor, you must install a sharp blade. Switch
blades soon enough to prevent blunt blades from damaging your skin. Do
not forget to make your beard soften thoroughly with water before you
apply any shaving cream. You can avoid scratching blemishes with the
help of a light shaving.

Different Classifications of Skin Care Products

February 28th, 2008

You can’t overlook the importance of skin care. Anyway, taking care of your skin is not hard after all. Visit any store and you can find variety of skin care products. The trick is to select one that can match your skin. These products can be classified into different categories. If you learn about these classifications, then you know which products to buy.

Usually, the products are categorized according to your skin type. For example, there are distinct skin care products for each dry, oily, and sensitive skin.

Some classifications are based on how you use. Are you going to use the products to cleanse, exfoliate, tone, or moisturize your face. There are some that treat special skin conditions such as acne, stretch marks, scars, wrinkles, aging, eczema, and dark spots. Then you will have another category on the ingredients used in the products. Some use herbs, synthetic chemicals, and fruit extracts.

Of course, these products are not the only thing you need to care for your skin. Other beneficial factors such as regular exercise and proper diet can also contribute to a healthy complexion.
