Imitations of Youth and Beauty

May 20th, 2007

It practically goes without saying that Western culture is obsessed with imitating youth and beauty. Spend a little time watching infomercials on the tube, and you can’t help but conclude that this obsession, rather than abating, is showing signs of ever increasing magnitude as the aging population, especially baby boomers, swells. Is there such a thing as a sane guide to personal and natural beauty?

Currently, Americans are spending $35 billion annually on cosmetics and perfumes and another $15 billion on health clubs and spas. Hair salons, back-waxing emporiums, nail salons, numberless varieties of blue jeans, and all the straightening, capping, lasering and bleaching of teeth grab billions more. Although there seems to be a backlash in the media against “heroine chic”, anorexic models, the trend toward epidemic obesity would seem contradictory.

Obviously, confusion reigns. Today it is known that a majority of women, and a fair percentage of men, are dissatisfied with their appearance. Beauty advice seems to be everywhere. The trick really is to sift through it all, try to find some sanity, and figure out what is most comfortable for you. This isn’t exactly easy.

question. Perhaps a better question would be: “What is the best hair
loss product for me?” Finding the answer will involve some trial and
error. However some of the options include:

Home Hair Loss Remedies

There is a wide variety of home remedies for hair loss. Some may be old
wives tales whilst some of them may well assist some people. Here are a
few of the more promising home remedies for hair loss:

- Rinse your hair with apple cider vinegar and sage tea.
- A variety of oils have been used—almond oil, castor oil, olive

good and make your hair shiny.

All of these remedies should be rinsed out after use with the exception of the apple cider and sage tea.

conditioner. Some people swear by Nizoral shampoo, saying it stops hair
loss. Some people recommend Mane & Tail shampoo and conditioner

May 18th, 2007

thinking of buying hair extensions which are now one of the most sought after
‘must have’ beauty accessories around today, then you must read these
hair tips first so you can make
an informed decision as to which type will suit your needs best.

If you have short hair and you want long hair but you do not
want to wait months or years for your own hair to grow then hair extensions are
a great idea. They come in a variety of different colors, lengths and
thicknesses to suit almost anyone.

There are two types of hair extensions, one that is relatively
cheap to buy and can be attached to you hair with the aid of a clip in a number
of different ways, creating lots of different styles in minutes and the second
type of hair extensions are those that are attached by a hairdresser which
takes several hours and are only removed when they have become tatty, usually
after about three to four months.

Do not be too worried by the cost of hair extensions as these
days they have come down in price compared to what they used to be. The clip in
hair extensions can be found on the internet for as little as $60 however the
more permanent ones that are woven in by your hairdresser can cost several
hundred dollars. If you had the time and wanted to save money you could even
decide to make the hair extensions yourself which is quite easy to do and supplies
to make them are readily available.

Some people lighten their hair, which is also known as bleaching or decoloring. This process involves the diffusion of the natural color pigment or arificial color from the hair.

Permanent hair coloring products contain oxidising agent and an alkalizing ingredient. These chemicals raise the cuticle of the hair fibre so the color can penetrate in the hair fiber. They also facilitate the formation of tints within the hair fibre and bring about the lightening action of peroxide.

In the case of temporary colors the the pigment molecules are large so they do not penetrate the cuticle layer. It allows only a coating action that may be removed by shampooing. Temporary hair coloring products come in various forms like shampoos and gels.

Normally temporary colors are used to give brighter colors to the hair. It is because temporary hair colourants do not penetrate the hair shaft itself. Instead, these dyes remain adsorbed to the follicle and can be easily removed with a single shampooing.
